Sam Darnold Says He’s ‘Confident’ He’ll Play Against the Eagles in Week Five

The Jets could not get starting quarterback Sam Darnold back soon enough after seeing the offense struggle in their 23-3 Monday night drubbing at the hands of the Cleveland Browns.

Some are saying that Darnold is going to miss a couple of more weeks, but the quarterback said today via NFL.com that he feels he will be back for the team’s week five battle with the Eagles.

“I have full confidence that I’ll be ready for the Eagles game,” he told reporters Wednesday.

“I’m not going to promise anything because I don’t know where exactly this mono thing is going. But that’s the goal that the doctors have set, and that’s the goal I have set the game to be back for.”

Darnold will miss the Jets week three battle with the New England Patriots, who have outscored their opponents 76-3 over the first two games of the season.

The QB job for the Jets now will go to Luke Falk, who came in when Trevor Siemian was injured in the second quarter.

Darnold said that he is starting to feel more like himself as he recovers from his bout with mono.

“I feel way better today. My energy’s up. Not exactly where I’d like it to be by next week and other weeks, but it’s been good, especially all things considered,” Darnold said.
