Sam Darnold Says He’s Not Playing Consistent Enough to Win

Sam Darnold could have been perfect on Sunday, and it still may not have changed the Jets’ fate against the Colts.

But in reality, Darnold’s performance in a 36-7 loss turned out to be the lowlight in what was a miserable day in every aspect for the road team at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.Darnold tossed three interceptions, including two that were returned for touchdowns. The other pick came in the end zone, killing one of the Jets’ few promising drives without any points.

Darnold takes the blame for his poor performance against the Colts, Chris Ryan of NJ Advance Media reports.

“I’m not playing consistent enough to play well in this league,” Darnold said. “And so, for me, I just need to play more consistent, make the plays when they’re there, and when they’re not, just get rid of the ball, check it down, do all the right things I need to do.”

Darnold finished 17-of-29 passing for 168 yards, one touchdown and the three interceptions. Through three games, he’s averaging just 5.9 yards per attempt.
