While head coach Adam Gase might be firmly situated on the hot seat, the Jets denied they’re making plans for his successor just yet, Chris Ryan of NJ Advance Media reports.
According to Pro Football Talk, the team denied a report that said CEO and acting owner Christopher Johnson started reaching out to top coaching agents who represent potential candidates for the Jets’ next head coach, should Gase be fired.
On Monday, Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports reported Johnson and the Jets started reaching out to agents with Gase potentially coaching for his job with the team at 0-3 entering its Week 4 game against the Denver Broncos.
“I’m told the Jets have already reached out to a top coach agent and started asking questions,” Cowherd said on his show Monday. “They’re going to look to college, they’re going to look to the pros. But the Jets have started the process. Of course, the Jets will deny this, but the Jets are now calling big-time agents. I’m not going to give you the name of the agent because that will give up my source. But they are calling big-time agents, Christopher Johnson, and they’re now compiling lists.”
Gase enters Thursday’s game against the Broncos with a 7-12 record since taking over as Jets coach in 2019.
