It was a massive risk that didn’t pay off, and for it, Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is out of a job.
The Jets canned Williams less than 24 hours after he called a blitz on the Raiders and QB Derek Carr in the final seconds, which cost New York a touchdown in their 28-24 loss to drop to 0-12.
The play that Williams called the blitz on cost the Jets a TD when Henry Ruggs got past single coverage for a perfectly thrown touchdown pass.
The play came from the Jets’ 46-yard line with 13 seconds remaining and no time outs. All the Jets had to do was keep the Raiders out of the end zone.
The Jets have four more chances to not end the season winless, and now they will go with a new defensive coordinator to do it.
