Jets safety Eric Smith is appealing his one-game suspension for the hit on Anquan Boldin last week at the Meadowlands. The hit on Boldin knocked him out, and eventually forced him to have sinus membrane surgery. “Nothing has been finalized with that yet,” Eric Mangini said. “It still has to go through the appeal process.” The foul on Smith that cost him the suspension is “a flagrant violation of player safety rules.” Smith has said that there was no harm meant in the hit on Boldin. He was also fined $50,000 for the hit.
