Training Camp Report: 8/13

With the Giants looming on Monday, the Jets took the field for one of their final practices before their first game. Here’s what happened.

  • The Jets ran their second live goal line drill of training camp. This time, the offense dominated, scoring on five out of six plays. Mark Sanchez rolled right and hit Dustin Keller ford a 1 yards td pass, which Rich Cimini likened to “The Catch.” L.T. then leaped over the pile to score. The second team offense scored on all three of its attempts. Shonn Greene ran it twice and Mark Brunell hit John Connor on the other score.
  • Rex was not to be pleased with the second team defense. “I don’t know what the deal is with the second defense, but they decided not to show up,” Ryan said.
  • L.T. got the majority of the first team reps, ahead of Shonn Greene.
  • Nick Mangold (head) practiced fully after sitting out a few practices.
  • Nick Folk was 4-5 on field goals, missing a 37 yarder. The lone miss was due to a mishandled snap by holder T.J. Conley.
  • During red zone drills Sanchez was 4-4, finding Bralyon Edwards a couple times.
  • Many fans have been wondering how undrafted free agent Donovan Warren was progressing. Well, don’t get too excited as Rex gave a bleak evaluation of Warren today. “He’s been up and down,” Ryan said. “Today was a bad day.” Ryan added that he specifically blew a coverage during the goal line drill today.
  • The John Connor praise continues again. Today Rex said “John Conner, one day is going to be a big-time fullback in this league.”
  • He stopped short of guaranteeing a roster spot of Tony Richardson, but he said Richardson can definitely go another season.
