Jets Escape in Indy, Beat Colts 17-16

And the Jets live another day. A heart-pounding, thrilling game ended as a Nick Folk 32 yard FG sailed through the uprights. Some instant reaction from the New York Jets 17-16 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

  • Revis Island is officially back in business. Revis blanketed Reggie Wayne all game long. 1 catch for 1 yard. You wonder why he had zero interceptions this season. It’s because no one throws to him.
  • As good as Revis was, Antonio Cromartie was equally bad. Turns out, he fared no better than Lito Sheppard and Dwight Lowery did last year. The 57 TD was the Colts only big play of the game.
  • Not the best day for Mark Sanchez. He was erratic all game, missing open receivers. However, when he needed to, he made a few plays to help the Jets win on the final drive. As long as he limits mistakes (only 1 INT though it cost the Jets points) and makes a few plays the Jets can compete in any game.
  • Was any Jets fan confident Nick Folk would make that kick? I had visions of Doug Brien playing over and over in my head as Folk lined up to attempt the kick. The up and down kicker came through though.
  • The Jets own the Jacksonville Jaguars a big thank you. The Jaguars loss in Week 16, clinched a playoff berth for the Jets allowing them to rest their starters in Week 17. It paid off big time for LaDainian Tomlinson, who looked like the L.T. who was an MVP candidate in the beginning of the season.
  • Kudos to Rex Ryan for altering his game-plan and deciding not to blitz Peyton Manning and play more coverage. I can’t imagine that was easy for Rex to do, but it paid off big time.

Next on tap for the Jets: a return trip to Foxborough, the site where the Jets lost 45-3 to the Patriots. It will be an uphill battle for Gang Green, but they are one of the two teams to beat the Patriots this season and as we witnessed today in Seattle, you can never count any team out.
