QB Erik Ainge Has a Torn Rotator Cuff

Jets quarterback Erik Ainge disclosed on his Twitter account that he has a torn rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder.

“Found out i have a torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder today,” wrote Ainge. “no fun, o well, could always be worse, im sober and loved, all that matters.”

Ainge, who turns 25 on Sunday, spent all of 2010 on the Jets’ “Reserve/Did Not Report” list as he sought treatment drug and alcohol addiction, as well as depression.

A former fifth-round pick out of Tennessee in 2008, Ainge has appeared in seven preseason games during his career, completing 38-of-55 passes for 566 yards and five touchdowns. Ainge is buried on a Jets’ depth chart that includes Mark Sanchez, Mark Brunell, 2010 seventh-round pick Greg McElroy, Kevin O’Connell, and Drew Willy.

Third-string quarterback Kellen Clemens is a potential unrestricted free agent this offseason.
