NFL Gridiron Gab Columnist Jeremy Fuchs

The Battle of New York has come and gone and it is the Giants who came out on top. It wasn’t pretty, but they got it done, beating the Jets 29-14 and keeping their playoff hopes alive.

After a Giants TD was brought back by a too many men penalty, the Jets capitalized and scored on a 5 yard Josh Baker TD. The Giants hit a field goal in the 2nd to make it 7-3. Victor Cruz put the Giants on top with an electrifying 99 yard touchdown catch.  On a drive that featured Victor Cruz becoming the franchise single season receiving leader, Ahmad Bradshaw scored on a 14 yard run to make it 17-7. After a Kenny Phillips interception, the Giants hit another field goal, this time for 36 yards to make it 20-7. Midway through the 4th, Mark Sanchez ran it in 2 yards to make it 20-14. Chris Canty sacked Sanchez for a safety, to make it 22-14. After the safety, Bradshaw scored again on a 19 yard run to make it 29-14.

Sanchez finished the afternoon completing 30 out of 59 passes for 258 yards, to go along with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Playoff Picture: For the Jets, they need the Bengals to lose at home against Baltimore, while taking care of business in Miami on New Year’s Day to earn the final wild card spot in the AFC.
