Safety Eric Smith Has Hip and Knee Injuries

Eric Smith left the preseason opener against the Bengals with what coach Rex Ryan called hip and knee injuries, but the Jets safety did not sound overly concerned, Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.

“I don’t think its anything too serious,” Smith said.

Smith made a tackle on a punt return and said his left leg “got rolled up.” He was down on the field and then limped off with the team’s training staff. Afterward, head trainer John Mellody wrapped Smith’s left knee and put ice on it.

A team spokesman said Smith is “day to day” and X-Rays taken at the stadium were negative.
