Smith Hobbles Onto Practice Field, Throws 4 TD’s

Missing a day of practice could signal the end of the quarterback competition for Geno Smith. But on Sunday the rookie quarterback proved he isn’t about to leave the field without a fight.

After rolling his ankle during Friday night’s game against the Detroit Lions, Geno Smith was given the all clear to practice. Per the quarterback rotation, Smith practiced with the first team offense, and threw four touchdowns. His only error in an otherwise reportedly outstanding session was a late interception during red-zone drills. Smith threw into the middle of the field for Ryan Spadola and was intercepted by Antonio Cromartie. He finished the session 7-for-10, 4 touchdowns and 1 interception, according to ESPN New York’s Rich Cimini.

While clearly not 100% following his injury on Friday night, today’s practice was a statement by Smith. He proved he has the resolve and determination to bounce back from a poor performance and continue to stake his case as the Jets starting quarterback.

In other news, the Jets released running back John Griffin, who broke his leg during Friday’s game. In his place the team signed RB Kahlil Bell and WR Rahsaan Vaughn.
