Jets Grab Louisville OT Mekhi Becton in Round One of 2020 NFL Draft

The Jets need help to protect franchise QB Sam Darnold, and did that on Thursday night with the pick of Louisville offensive tackle Mekhi Becton with the 11th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Rich Cimini of ESPN wrote about why the Jets went this route taking the tackle.

Somewhere in Southern California, quarterback Sam Darnold is smiling. Even though the Jets added four new linemen in free agency, they needed a long-term anchor to protect their most valuable investment. Becton is that guy. He is a towering size at 6-foot-7, 364 pounds, and he plays like a man who is 100 pounds lighter. His presence at left or right tackle will improve the running game. Running back Le’Veon Bell is happy too.

CBS Sports says that Becton is a “freak” and that he will have a big impact on the Jets line:
